Each year, three types of National Merit Scholarships are offered to qualifying students. Finalists compete for 2,500 National Merit® $2500 Scholarships, which are awarded on a state-representational basis. Additionally, around 160 corporations and organizations sponsor approximately 840 corporate Merit Scholarships for Finalists who meet specific eligibility criteria, such as being children of employees or residents near the sponsors’ locations. Furthermore, about 160 colleges and universities provide nearly 3,800 college-sponsored Merit Scholarships to finalists planning to attend their institutions.
